MPM Engineering Ltd. was started in 1980. There were three partners with their initials right there in the name of the company “M” “P” “M”. All three founders worked for Canadian Car Pacific (later known as Kockums - Can Car and CSMI, Portland) and all three left with a desire to bring sawmill controls and automation into the Programmable Controller and computer era.
The motivation and belief that MPM Engineering Ltd. would succeed comes from the composition of people who work for the company and the company we keep - the customers who believe in us and keep coming back, demanding the best performance, service and personnel that they know and trust.
It is honesty and integrity that have gotten MPM Engineering Ltd. the furthest. In 1980 when the company was starting - we followed in the footsteps of a company known for excellent service and customer relations - we have also concentrated on building good relationships with our customers and it has paid off.
We are very fortunate in that about ½ of the staff have been involved in the sawmill industry for two decades and more - mostly with Kockums Can-Car (at one time the largest sawmill equipment manufacturer in North America.) The other ½ is young and eager to show and prove that the new scanning technology and today’s computer power along with programming techniques can bring about major change in log and lumber processing. It is this happy blend of experience, expertise, enthusiasm and extra effort on everybody’s part that makes it such a great encounter.
In 1996 - MPM Engineering Ltd. was the winner of the Annual Passport to Export award as a company with a new product best suited for export. The competition was sponsored by Business in Vancouver magazine in cooperation with BC Trade, Western Diversification, Federal Express and others. MPM Engineering Ltd. was chosen from over 180 entries in the competition. A series of articles in the BIV magazine followed the all-expense paid marketing trip to Malaysia and Indonesia.
In the latter part of 1997 - MPM Research Inc. was introduced as a separate company from MPM Engineering Ltd.
The primary objective of the company is to develop new sophisticated software for optimization of lumber production by sawmill major machine centers. The secondary function is to assist MPM Engineering Ltd. with the development of customized versions to TSO software and help with the maintenance of existing software base.
In February 2001 – MPM Engineering Ltd. & MPM Research Inc. moved into their new building located in Surrey, BC.
In May 2009 - MPM Engineering Ltd. opens their own Panel and Fabrication shop. (Click here for details)
